Spring Break Visit with Granny and Chief

The week before Easter we went

to Florida for Spring Break. We

just had to go up and see Granny

and Chief. Here are some photos

of the kids with them.

Emily was given an award at

school on the last day before

spring break. Her classmates

voted for the classmate who

best represented the character

trait of Citizenship. I'm not sure

why they chose here, but they did.

Here she is with her award! They had pajama day and got

to watch a movie. I sure don't

remember ever getting to do

such things when I was in school!

The entire 2nd grade got to

practice rollerskating in p.e.

for a whole week. I think

Emily liked it best when it

was just girls skate. The

boys were a lot more

aggressive skating. Here

she is with her horse camp

These are the only two

that I liked. I didn't think

they turned out nearly as

cute as I think she can be.

Professional Bull Riding

On February 17th we were in

Knoxville and decided to go to

Thompson Boling Arena and

watch Professional Bull

Riding. Quite an interesting

experience. I could only watch

until the rider started to lose

their seat then I would quickly

turn away. The kids on the other

hand just watched totally fascinated! This isn't my picture. I

copied it from the PBR website.

It is quite representative

of what we saw, though.

A Visit With The Easter Bunny

Last Saturday I took off

for the day and went to

Chattanooga. While

away....the kids did play!

They went to visit Mema

and Aunt Sherri at a craft

fair where they were

vendors and got a chance

to see the Easter Bunny!

North Carolina Skiing

On President's Day we drove
to North Carolina from Knoxville.
We were looking forward to
a couple of days of skiing
in the Appalachian Mountains.

Here is Emily working on
facing down the hill. You
want you lower body to
turn, but keep you shoulders
facing straight down the
hill. The pole helps her
not let her arm get behind
her and consequently turn
her upper body.

Same goes for Michael.
He needs a lot more
work on this.

Ripley's Aquarium

We went to Gatlinburg on

Sunday February 18th. We

decided to go to Ripley's

Aquarium. We'd never

been before, and we

thoroughly enjoyed it.In the kids area they had

two aquariums that the

kids could climb up into

the middle of. Here they

are posing for their

mom. At least in this

picture Michael doesn't

have a cheesy smile on.

Look at the big crab
with little itty bitty claws.

There was a huge aquarium
that had a moving walkway
winding its way through it.
We saw fish, sharks, crabs
and other marine life swim
on either side of us and over
the top of us too!! Pretty cool.

Summitt belts out 'Rocky Top' and cheers for Vols men

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Pat Summitt wore an orange cheerleader uniform, sang "Rocky Top" and stood on top of a human pyramid to show her support of the Tennessee men's basketball team Tuesday night.


The legendary Lady Vols coach came through on a promise to make a special appearance during the men's game against No. 5 Florida.


She was paying back men's coach Bruce Pearl for painting his upper body orange and cheering at a Lady Vols game last month.


Summitt came out during the first media timeout of the game shrouded by other cheerleaders and started singing "Rocky Top" while holding a microphone and wearing an orange and white feathery hat and cheerleader uniform.


At the end of the song, she put her hat on ESPN commentator Dick Vitale. Then she helped lead cheers with the cheerleaders and her assistant coaches and finished by being the top of a short pyramid formed by assistants Holly Warlick and Dean Lockwood.


Summitt, 54, said Monday the appearance would seem "a lot out of character," and she was right.


Summitt is known for working players hard in practice and her icy stare on the sidelines during games. She's also the winningest coach in NCAA basketball history -- men or women -- with 940 victories.


"My cheerleading days are over. I did this for Bruce Pearl and his basketball team and all the Vols fans," Summitt told ESPN after her appearance.


"This was fun. I'm glad my staff joined in."
Summitt was a cheerleader in seventh and eighth grade.


"America got a chance to see a side of Pat Summitt that they probably haven't seen since she was in eighth grade," Pearl said after the game. "Pat is a lot of fun to play for. OK, she's demanding and she can be real tough at times, but let me tell you something, she's as kind and as sweet as a person as I know. She didn't disappoint."


Thompson-Boling Arena, which seats 24,535, was nearly full and included other notable personalities: Indianapolis and former Tennessee quarterback Peyton Manning came to see his alma mater, along with Volunteers football coach Phillip Fulmer.


Manning received a standing ovation when he was introduced in the first half.


Boston Celtics executive director of basketball operations Danny Ainge accompanied his nephew, Vols quarterback Erik Ainge.

I thought my cousin, Marisa's,

birthday was yesterday, but

my mom said it is actually

today. So here is another big...

She is turning 30 today.

My aunt has arrived to help

her celebrate. Have Fun!!!

Our first days of skiing for the year....

We were supposed to go to

NY on February 15th, but

cancelled our trip when

Gloversville got 38 inches

of snow. Yikes! We were

worried about getting stuck
in the airport or on the side of

the road. Also the highs were

going to be in the single digits

and the teens. Brr. To cold

to go ski. So we went
to Indiana instead!

It is their steepest run. The
kids did it with ease.

It is hard to see it in this
picture but Michael is
catching some air after
going over this kicker.
I think it was the next
time he hit it that he landed
flat on his back. Thank
heavens for helmets.

Emily and Michael on Rain

A couple of Saturdays ago

we saddled up
without the saddle and had
a great ride. Emily is doing
really well with Rain. I'm
so proud of her.

Michael did a little trotting
too. He had a hard time
holding on. I think he needs
to learn to squeeze a little more
with those spindley legs of his.

We did lots of walking,
changing directions and
a little trotting. Emily
actually said that she liked
it. This was a first. Trotting
has been something she
avoided at all cost.

I think this shot was taken
just before Emily fell off. See
that leg in mid-kick? I got
a little over confident in her
ability to hold on with her
spindley little legs and had her
trot by herself. She trotted
about 4 steps of so before getting
bounced off. She cried a little
and then got back on. She did
trot again, but with me beside
Rain with me in control. She
did fine and walked around
quite a bit more on her own.

Jump Rope For Heart

Last Friday Emily's school
participated in a fundraiser
for the American Heart
Association called Jump Rope
For Heart. Here are some
photos from that event.
They did five different stations
and jumped for 30 minutes.
Of course one of the stations was
just a regular jump rope!

Emily seemed to especially
enjoy the trampoline!

Whenever I tell her to
jump through a hoop she
just ignores me...

Emily just finished her jump.
The kids enjoyed this a lot.
Some of the girls, not Emily,
did cartwheels over it!

Snow Day!!!!

I'm very late in posting

these pictures. This snow

came February 2nd.

Isn't it pretty? Glad it came
and left very quickly!

Banner had a great time
playing in the snow!

Peanut didn't seem to
mind the white stuff!

They acted like they've
never seen snow before!

Michael went out with me
while it was still snowing.
